Day 1: Ice Hotel, Warm Accommodation
Fly via Stockholm and arrive into Kiruna, the nearest airport to the ICEHOTEL. Transfer to the ICEHOTEL by shared vehicle (approx. 15 minutes) where you will be given your thermal clothing and boots to keep throughout your stay.
For dinner, you have the choice of two restaurants; the Ice hotel Restaurant or the Homestead which is a short walk into the village and more casual. We will make table reservations for you and you can settle your bill upon check out.
Later you will no doubt wish to enjoy a drink in the Ice Bar and maybe you will see the Northern Lights in the sky on your way back to your room.
Tonight will be your first of two nights warm accommodation. These take the form of standard hotel rooms or chalets, and we can discuss the options with you. Some are 2-bedroom units which are great for families or friends.
Day 2: Ice Hotel, Warm Accommodation & Northern Lights by Snowmobile
After waking up, enjoy a complimentary sauna before heading over the road to the Ice Hotel restaurant for breakfast.
Today is at leisure (consider pre booking an additional activity or excursion). You will have time to explore the wonderful ice creations by the ice artists from all over the world. The hotel is open as a visitors attraction until late afternoon so there is plenty of time to see as many different rooms as possible, as well as the chapel. You may also want to venture down into the small village of Jukkasjärvi to explore the outdoor Sami museum and local church.
This evening is one of the exciting highlights of the trip; the Northern Lights by shared snowmobile excursion with 2-course traditional dinner. You will go in search of the magical Northern Lights in the unspoiled wilderness surrounding the ICEHOTEL. Away from all artificial lights, your eyes will be drawn upwards towards the heavens and, should conditions permit, the colourful waves of Lady Aurora. An evening meal is served in a wilderness camp during which your guide will tell you truths and tales about the celestial phenomenon. You will depart around 1930 and return around 2300hrs.
Overnight in warm accommodation.
Day 3: Ice Hotel, Art Suite & Extended Husky Excursion
After breakfast you will join a very special, extended Trap Line Dog Sled Excursion with light lunch where you can learn to mush your own husky sled. You will be collected from the Ice hotel and driven to the kennels which is owned by well-known local family who have won awards for their excursions. This is one of our top recommendations and we always receive excellent feedback from our clients who take part.
The kennels of Bert Ove Johansson are located in Laxforsen 10km from Kiruna, and have been certified by the ‘Nature’s Best’ environmental award. After meeting your team of huskies at the kennels, you will depart for a tour of the surrounding Arctic wilderness. Watch the white landscape glide past from your seat or from the mushers/driver’s position – It is a truly wonderful experience.
Light refreshments will be served in a wilderness hut whilst the guide tells stories about the huskies and the traditional way of light and survival techniques used in the area. It is possible to take a short snow shoe walk in the surroundings of the hut. Return to kennels by dog sled. One passenger is included to learn in the main cost, you can pay a supplement for a private sled each. Children are required to sit in the guides sled.
In the afternoon, you can enjoy a range of activities at the Ice Hotel such as a Moose Safari, Ice Sculpting, Snowshoeing, Reindeer Safari. You can also have a walk down to the village church and visit the outdoor Sami Museum.
Tonight will be the highlight of your trip, your chance to sleep on Ice in your upgraded Art Suite, or why not upgrade to an Deluxe Suite if you want your own private luxury bathroom. You will be issued with your sleeping bag and guided on how to get a good night sleep. We will also provide a guide and tips on what to pack and how to make the most of your experience before you travel.
Overnight in an Art Suite.
