It is an enormous task every year to creating the ICEHOTEL with some 4,000 tons of natural ice being harvested from the nearby river Torne earlier in the year. The ice is harvested in March, stored in a cold warehouse over the summer and when the temperatures drop below zero, the construction of the ICEHOTEL begins. It takes two months to construct the ICEHOTEL.
Each year the ICEHOTEL in Sweden doesn’t disappoint with the rooms changing design and offering a completely new take on the art of sculpting ice.
Other highlights at the ICEHOTEL in the village of Jukkasjarvi near Kiruna in Northern Sweden include a new Swedish sauna ritual with a chilling experience ending in the freezing river water for those who dare! The menu at the ICEHOTEL restaurant has been upgraded by Michelin trained head chef Alexander Meier focussing on reinventing local delicacies in a new style including sea buckthorn, cloudberries and sprout shoots. A new steakhouse menu is being added to the ICEHOTEL’S Homestead restaurant flavoured by a special charcoal oven.
